Cup of Excellence® is the most prestigious coffee award, given for outstanding and exceptional premium quality coffees, all of which are entered into a stringent competition which is currently held in ten South American and Central American countries. The level of scrutiny the Cup of Excellence® coffees undergo is unmatched anywhere in the Speciality coffee industry. The aim of the competition is to find true coffee excellence, and the best coffee from the origin country for that year’s harvest.

Each year thousands of coffees are entered into the competition. The competition is rigorous, with cupping valuations taken over a three week period. Firstly the coffee is judged by a National jury of about a dozen qualified jurors from the origin country. If the coffee is successful and makes it through to the next stage, it is then judged by an International jury comprised of 20-25 experienced jurors from around the world. Only coffees that continue to score highly are allowed to move forward, through to the further stages of the competition.  A competition with 300 entries yields an average of 9,000 analysed cups. The final winners are awarded the esteemed Cup of Excellence®.  The coffees are then sold at auction to the highest bidder, which means that the farmer is then rewarded for his hard work. The Cup of Excellence® competition is a mechanism to continually strive for the absolute best in premium quality coffees.

These are rare coffees, of exceptional quality, and in very limited supply. They are carefully chosen for a well-developed body, delicious sweetness and wonderful aroma. Each coffee brings with it its own unique flavours from its growing area, coupled with the local knowledge and expertise used to bring out the best of the coffee’s unique characteristics.
